Life with 2
After a month of having two kids, I have to say that having two is definitely interesting. Of course, when one of them is Rory, my guess is that it had no chance to be any different. Rory is adjusting well to having Quinn around. She seems to love her little sister bunches and has turned into quite the helper (when she's not having a 2 year-old moment). Life in Holly Springs is settling into place too. It's been taking some getting used to, but it's starting to become home.
Last Friday I met my friend Heather at Jumping Beans. It's one of those places with the big inflatables where kids can jump their little hearts out. It is like a nap waiting to happen. Places like that must have been invented by tired parents that were trying everything they could think of to tucker their kids out. God bless them for that! But I digress. Rory had a blast while we were there. Unfortunately, one of the times that Rory was getting off of the jumping thing (I'm sure there is a there is a technical name for it, but I don't care enough to go look it up... inflatable, maybe?) my friend's little girl managed to jump at just the right spot to send Rory catapulting up in the air. (It was a total accident. I'm pretty sure her 3 year-old doesn't know enough about physics to have planned it out.) Heather compared it to a Knoxville stunt from "Jackass". Anyway, she fell flew off onto the floor and started screaming. Turns out, she sprained her ankle. Now she's having to wear a little ace wrap on her ankle. She's doing pretty well - not limping much anymore, but she's rolling her foot out so she doesn't have to put full pressure on it. We are hoping that she starts walking more normally in the next few days, otherwise we are going to have to take her to an orthopedist to get it looked at.
When she's not beating herself up, Rory is quite the big sister. She shares with Quinn (even her Yo Gabba Gabba toys... and that's saying something) and likes to touch her and kiss her. She even helps feed her. (As a side note, the only time Rory gets to watch Yo Gabba Gabba is when I pump, so she will now walk to the counter where I keep my pumping junk and then look at me and tell me to pump. Hilarious.) A few days ago, I gave Rory some stickers to. play with. She decided that Quinn needed them. The results were too cute not to share.
Most of this post has been about Rory, so I guess I should update about Quinn. She is doing very well. At her 2 week appointment, she weighed 8lbs 8oz (up 7oz from her birth weight, 13oz from what she was when she left the hospital). My guess is that she is around 10lbs now at a month. I hate to even post this because I am superstitious (I'm sure I'll jinx it), but she's doing really well at night. She usually eats around 10, sleeps until 4:30 and then goes back to sleep until close to 8. She's even given us a few nights where she has slept from 10 or 11 til 7. That's only happened about 3 times so far, but that's 3 times more than I'd been expecting from a baby that was less than a month old. Of course, those were always Nathan's nights to get her - it's like she knew somehow. It's not fair. (Especially b/c I'm a slacker and I don't get up in the middle of the night to pump so I don't get up at all on his nights - other than to wake him up, since the screaming child isn't enough.)
And with that, it's time for me to go wake Quinn from her afternoon nap and feed her. Yes, I'm breaking the cardinal rule of parenting by waking a sleeping baby, but she could seriously sleep for ages when she's swaddled and I would much rather her sleep at night. It's been working, so I'll stick with it.
As an end note, I should not have to use html to get this to format properly. I hate the auto formatting on blogger!
